Yes, the title is a little long. But it is an accurate title. This is one of those books I wish I had read or forced my child to read. The book is a little dated. For those who don’t know what a DiscMan was, it was a portable CD player. It was before MP3 players. Not quite the old “Walkman” that played cassette tapes. But the concepts in the book are still valid.
The book describes tested methods of study and a little on hacking your study abilities. It is more of a try this and if it does not work try that kind of method.

| The Learning Delusion |
Because of “The Learning Delusion” I have started paying attention to some pretty minute details, like what color I highlight or underline with. My brain, as suggested in the book, seems to be drawn to certain colors over others. It makes it easier to pay attention, as well as jumps the information out during review time.
The steps and techniques are not complicated. They may be time-consuming, but if it works out taking less time in the long run, because you are using your learning time more productively, that seems like a win to me.
One of the reasons I gave this a four bookmark rating was the author seems a little bit too egocentric for my taste. It is true that looking to people who succeed at what you want to accomplish and learning from them is wisdom unto itself! Yet the whole, “well they did this way but I was better” thing got a little old.
I think the information is good, but the execution could use some help. At least the book was not full of basic typos and miss-used words. That was a nice change from some others I have read for recently.
It is inexpensive ($6.99), and only an 84 minute listen. Take a look and let me know what you think.
