Task Force 125: Path to Freedom

Author: Lisa Pietsch
Format: All
Source: Auditioned, Kindle Unlimited
Rated: R-Adult sexual content, violence
Book Marks: ⇑⇑⇑⇓⇓ (3 for 5)

Not a bad read, nice to have a female hero.  I really could compare Ms. Stephens as fem fatal, or Mitch Rapp (Character from American Assassin).  But with more explicit sexual behavior. I would suggest this read to someone who has no compunction with soft pornography. I do, so I’m glad I did not get this audition.  It saved me having to refuse the job.

I read this book while waiting to hear back from an audition I sent to the Rights Holder (RH).  One of the challenges I have is sending in an audition fast, so as to have an opportunity to get it, is there is never time to read the whole book first.  After I say that “Yes I will produce,” I feel a need to fill that contract.  So I’ve taken to reading the book if it is available on Kindle Unlimited or free through another source after I audition.  Some RHs actually upload the whole manuscript to the audition page, so I get the whole book when I audition.  Then if I decide I should not do it for some reason, I can refuse then, without causing undue harm to the RH.

Having said that back to my review…

I think the author has really got something here.  The character was exceedingly identifiable to me, even as a guy, because she struggles with weight.  This is all in chapter One so I’m not giving stuff away here.  She transforms herself and starts on a new life.  Details vague to avoid spoilers.

She lives in a manly man's world in this book and has to deal with that.  I would bet many a military female would identify with the stuff she has to put up with as a service person.  This is handled with a sense of style.  And Ms. Stephens seems to adapt to her environment well, and joyfully.

The characters are deep enough in this first book, to draw you in.  There are definite good and bad people in this book. And you get to know them pretty well.

There are exotic people and places.  Some locker room humor, and a sense of “true love” – to quote Princess Bride – Though to my personal criteria, it really is just lust.  So let’s call it Love at first sight.

Lisa Pietsch does write better than many authors in modernity.  Some of the books I look at for audition material is so poorly edited I do not even try.   But if she were to have a G rated book, I would be honored to submit another audition.

When I search on Audible Creative eXchange (ACX), I use a filter that excludes sexually explicit content.  The only problem is the author or RH has to say there is Explicit Content for my filter to catch it.  In this case, whoever set up the description did not check the box that said there IS explicit content.  This gave me a chance to read A book I’d usually not read.

If you like spy stuff and want a lot of lust in your life, this may be a book for you.  As for me, I’ll pass on the others because I know now what kind of material there is.
